New seats for the Listening Station

Hi Friends,I am re-designing my classroom's listening area by taking my old crates and recycling them into crate seats. Then I will be storing a CD player, a headset, and a book/CD set in each crate. During morning differentiated rotations my students will be assigned to different crates at the listening center based on their reading level. This will help me know that my students are reading at their independent reading level.

Materials Needed:
cardboard template for top (I took this to Lowes to get my plywood cut)
1/2" plywood cut to fit crates (Round or cut corners off)
eggshell foam mat (twin size)
fabric (1/2 yard for each seat)
spray adhesive
fabric tacks or staple gun
ribbon
plastic crates (recycling my crates)

 Matching fabric scraps to crates

I had the wood cut at Lowes and then I cut the corners off.

Using spary adhesive I attached the wood and foam.

My Yorkie, Sparky is making sure I am doing it right!

Next I attached the fabric using a staple gun.

Whew! Here are three of the six that I am making.
They look amazing. I know my students will love
using them at the listening station.

Book Basket Makeover

Hello Friends!
I have made my book baskets over for my new class library.  I made labels for each genre and then laminated and attached them to the baskets using book rings. They are looking awesome!  I can't wait to see my students using these in our amazing, new, classroom.

State Standards

Hello Friends!

I have just created my new third grade state standards book for the parent board.  I have each subject area in a different color. As you can see I am keeping with the classroom theme.....Learning in the Jungle!
Reading/Language Arts - Red
Math - Blue
Science - Purple
Social Studies - Orange

It helps parents know what their child is expected to master in third grade. It also helps in weekly planning for the team.

News of the Jungle!

Hello!

As I take a sigh of relief that I made it to the end of the year...... I also am starting to think about third grade. You see I not only will be changing schools for next year, I am changing grade levels. HELP!!!!!! I am on overload as I think about curriculum, student's needs, IEP's, setting up a new classroom, tweaking my Jungle of Learning theme, FCAT, and did I mention that my building is still under construction. I just have to take a moment and breath. This will all work out.   Check back soon to see what is new in the Jungle of Learning.

Writing Folder

Hello Friends!

For writing this year we are using our newly improved writing folder. We  glued two pronged folders together to create a four folder deal.  Then we created labels for each section.  This will help all of our students keep up with all of their writing stuff and examples from our writing workshop.

Front of Folder (Writing Folder on label)

Inside of folder part 1 (Drafting, Pre-writing will be in prongs, proofreading)

Inside of second folder (the two folders are glued together) Revising and Published in these pockets.
